Government Affairs Consultant

The National Elevator Industry, Inc. (NEII) is seeking a seasoned, independent Government Affairs Consultant to help assess, develop, coordinate and manage NEII's governmental, legislative and regulatory activities, including those conducted with the International Union of Elevator Constructors (IUEC) and its Elevator Work Preservation Fund (EIWPF), in accordance with the objectives established by the NEII Board of Directors and the NEII Government Affairs Committee.

The Government Affairs Consultant (GA Consultant) will render advice, counsel and direction to, and be a member and secretary of, the NEII Government Affairs Committee. State legislatures and regulatory authorities throughout the U.S. and major municipal entities (e.g., New York City, Chicago, San Francisco, etc.) will be the major targets of these activities.

As the national trade association of the building transportation industry, NEII promotes safe building transportation for new and existing products and technologies, and adoption of the current codes by local government agencies.

Requirements

Formal training as well as five or more years of experience in government/legislative is required. Applicants must understand the legislative process and the workings of government and be able to share that understanding with others. Applicants must possess the ability to work with and adapt to all kinds of people, as well as have experience in training and managing other people. Ability to integrate various program objectives is desirable. Applicants must have excellent communications and organizational skills. Applicants' knowledge of the building transportation industry or elevators and escalators is not required.
