Position will be based at the company’s Schaumburg, Illinois headquarters. New York or Washington, D.C. will also be considered.

At the direction of the Vice President of State Affairs, implements strategic and tactical objectives as they relate to Zurich Financial Service's (ZFS) public policy and political agenda at the state level.  The Director will maintain responsibility for primary analysis and monitoring of proposed legislation/regulations, perform political functions to advance ZFS visibility among lawmakers, and provide strategic input on the policy and political challenges facing ZFS in the state arena.  The Director will have specific jurisdictional responsibilities such as Midwest/Southeast, West/Southwest or Northeast/Mid-Atlantic.  Position will manage 2-3 key business states within his/her regional jurisdictions and will be responsible for managing 2-3 key company public policy issues. The Director will be tasked with executive level interaction, relationship building internal and external, leveraging and management of trade associations and outside counsel. Director will also have exposure to activities of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) and National Conference of Insurance Legislators, (NCOIL).

Job Qualifications

Bachelors Degree required.  Advanced degree in related field (e.g., law) preferred.
7 or more years of government affairs or related experience preferred
Insurance industry experience preferred (commercial property/casualty and/or life/health)
Excellent writing and presentation skills 

Issue management skills 

Comfortable working in a team environment
