The American Beverage Association is a leading trade association representing the non-alcoholic beverage industry that includes major global companies as well as hometown bottlers of refreshment beverages. The position requires strong communications and issues management capabilities. The ability to manage projects effectively, from conception to execution, is essential. The ability to effectively communicate with various audiences and through multiple communications mediums – traditional and new – is fundamental to the position as well. Person will be a core member of a strong, dynamic Communications and Public Affairs Team as well as a cutting-edge team of professionals for a leading trade association. 

Responsibilities: Manage communications projects at federal, state and local levels. Assist in issue management, helping to develop strategies that help shape and effectively communicate policy positions and initiatives. Assist in public relations efforts related to major initiatives at the federal and state levels, including working with the media as needed as well as developing communications materials. This includes writing news releases, blogs, tweets, speeches, opinion pieces and marketing materials as needed. Play a significant role in the utilization and maximization of digital communications tools and mediums. Manage communications projects. Provide communications counsel to other departments and staff as needed. 

Qualities & Qualifications: Candidate should have 5-8 years of communications or public affairs experience in government, trade associations, public relations/public affairs firms, corporations, non-profits or comparable. Must be a team-oriented and results-driven person, who has the ability to take projects from concept to execution. Must also be comfortable to contributing effectively to team projects. Must have a strategic mindset and capabilities; campaign experience is desirable (whether political or private/non-profit sector). Must be a strong writer, capable of effectively communicating via multiple mediums and to differing audiences. Must be able to understand often complex issues and then communicate them in a clear, effective manner. Experience with issues in health, science, environment are a plus but not required. Strong people skills are essential, including a proven ability to bring people together for a common purpose. Dedicated and committed.
