United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW) seeks a Director of Strategic Policy to spearhead UFCW's legislative initiatives, analysis, program development and program implementation. The incumbent will provide sophisticated analysis of legislative and regulatory proposals as well as policy options for their impact on UFCW members. The ideal candidate will have agriculture and food safety regulatory experience as a plus. While the position is primarily federally-oriented, state legislative and regulatory issues and initiatives will also be part of the purview of the incumbent.

Position Description:

Analyze UFCW's legislative needs and develop programs and policy options. Support and evaluate potential success of legislative and regulatory initiatives. Meet and negotiate with representatives of agencies and elected officials. Collaborate with local and national constituency groups. Oversee the development of related written materials related to UFCW's legislative initiatives in collaboration with related departments. Coordinate UFCW's legislative efforts within the organization structure.

Qualifications:

An ideal candidate has a BA with 5 years of experience in policy and legislative analysis, Masters or law degree preferred; has successful experience in planning and implementing strategic legislative campaigns; has experience with food safety, agriculture policy and related issues. The candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and a personal commitment to social justice and the labor movement.
