The BD Public Policy & Government Relations Department is seeking an experienced professional to join and grow with our team.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Based in Washington, DC, the Director, Public Policy & Government Relations will work with the BD Public Policy & Government Relations team and BD associates in developing and executing public policy strategies that support BD's business objectives and further the company's purpose of "helping all people live healthy lives."
The Director will:
Lead the development of key public policy initiatives within BD working through collaborative frameworks of internal stakeholders.
Work with the government relations team and others in the company to advocate for policies that drive timely patient access to quality healthcare and support for innovation.
Effectively represent BD to senior public officials in governmental agencies and legislative branches.
Develop and execute government relations strategies that leverage allied stakeholders, trade associations and the experience and knowledge of BD's company associates in delivering on objectives.
Provide strategic and tactical leadership and advice on public policy issues to senior executives across the company.
Take a lead role in strategic public policy planning.
Effectively manage and proactively work to enhance key government relations program initiatives.
The successful candidate should have the following attributes:
Demonstrated experience in leading and managing public policy teams across business units or equivalent experience in successfully working within a complex organization.
A track record of successful advocacy at the federal level on healthcare issues, pro-active leadership and strategic thinking.
Skills and experience in working with and leading a broad array of public policy stakeholder groups in industry, the patient community and academia.
Driven by a desire to continually improve and undertake new challenges. A commitment to excellence.
Proven experience in delivering high-quality, data-driven, and effective written and oral communications to internal and external stakeholders.
Required experience:
10 years experience in public policy and government relations in healthcare (preferably with a mix of advocacy and public policy development). This should include significant experience on Capital Hill and/or in a relevant federal agency, and several years of experience working in a corporate government relations function, a relevant trade association or agency/consulting work with corporate healthcare clients on advocacy projects.
Experience working with a political action committee, in building and working with stakeholder coalitions, and a familiarity with global health issues, is a plus.
Masters degree or doctorate in public policy, law, business or public health preferred.
