Work with NAM membership to enhance knowledge of the legislative process through increased member involvement, political education and a wider variety of activities and information dissemination. Grow the number of NAM members and the public who agree to occasionally contact elected officials in an effort to advance the legislative agenda of the manufacturing industry. Facilitate and administer designated projects, plan and provide support to NAM Public Affairs programs by performing the following duties:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Effectively develop and launch a re-branded grassroots effort for the organization. Develop and execute strategies to identify, recruit, motivate, train and activate targeted NAM members to serve as grasstops contacts with their federal elected representatives. Cultivate and maintain good working relationships with grasstops contacts. Develop communications, training and recognition programs to motivate and regularly inform grasstops contacts about their role and responsibilities.
Identify and track NAM
members who have a personal relationship with elected officials. Grow the
number of individuals who are identified as grass tops or key contacts.
Maintain databank of individuals so that we can more effectively advance the
legislative agenda of the association.
Develop metrics for evaluating grass tops and grassroots programs.
Actively track grasstops and grassroots campaigns and outreach for the
organization. Provide weekly/monthly reports on progress. Put in
place, policies and processes to grow the organization's grassroots
outreach. Monitor growth and help create a long-term strategy for public
engagement.
Support programs and activities related to the NAM Voting Record and the NAM
Awards including scheduling, extensive coordination, directly staffing NAM
members and leadership at local events, conducting appropriate follow-up and
working directly with member companies, members of congress and congressional
staff and members of the media as appropriate. Extensive travel required.
Work with Public Affairs team to execute this annual, association-wide fly-in. Work to plan, market, promote, develop, execute, manage and implement the program. Work with PA and meeting staff to execute all events. Act as the primary contact for lobbying visit assignment and administration. Work to engage grasstops and grassoots participation. Work also to trouble-shoot for member VIPs and staff leadership. Provide and support the drafting of required event end report. Other duties as needed and/or assigned.
Schedule, coordinate and staff assigned Congressional Dialogues and plant tours. Includes congressional coordination, issue preparation and extensive member contact. Manage and promote the event, track registration, work with Field and National Division staff as necessary; assign duties as necessary. Extensive travel required.
Participate in a variety of other public affairs and organizational activities as assigned, including member retention efforts, in-office visits with NAM members and prospect visits as directed.
EXAMPLES OF DECISION MAKING
On own authority: 1) Congressional scheduling. 3) Determining the
feasibility of plant tours vs. dialogues. 3) Maintenance and upkeep
for grassroots/tops contacts.
Which require the support of associates: 1) Organizing member involvement programs; seeking assistance from Public Affairs colleagues, regional managers with event location, hosts, general attendance and policy issues discussed. 2) Broad outreach campaign follow-up.
Which require approval by higher authority: 1) Scheduling programs involving NAM President and Senior Vice Presidents. 2) Association-wide outreach on policy issues.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
There is no peer supervisor responsibilities but may provide direction to
interns and help manage their time.
DEGREE OF SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Minimal, with guidance available and long-term goals provided.

levels of staff to provide information, develop strategy and coordinate
activity.
External: Members, non-members, coalition members, members of Congress,
congressional staff, the White House and the Administration for lobbying and
member involvement purposes.
Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an
individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university, preferably with a
political science or public policy emphasis; 5-7 years of association
experience, corporate government affairs or Capitol Hill experience; strong
writing, computer and organizational/time management skills; excellent
interpersonal skills with ability to work as a team; an orientation toward
member satisfaction; good understanding of the executive branch and legislative
process. Proficiency with proven grassroots database systems (i.e.:
Vocus, Democracy Data and Communications, Prosperity Project,
etc.). Previous experience in re-branding and growing a grassroots
network strongly preferred. Demonstrated ability to contribute to the
implementation of strategic advocacy initiatives. Must be willing to
travel.
