The Director of Media Relations, Science & Medical is responsible for providing media relations support to Pfizer Worldwide Research and Development (WRD) on keybusiness-related issues facing the company. This position will work closely with other professionals from Science, Technology and Medical Communications and WRD. The
Director will collaborate with legal and regulatory divisions, and where appropriate, create communications platforms for ongoing strategic and proactive initiatives. The position is based in New York City or Cambridge, Mass and reports to the Senior Director, Corporate Communications for Science, Medical and Policy.

He/she will develop and manage implementation of an integrated, long-term media relations strategic external communications programs pro that will:

1) Position WRD in top-tier national, trade, and academic media as a leading science and research organization
2) Manage corporate and WRD reputation and image in the press;
3) Develop strategic communications initiatives to further Pfizer's reputation as a leading
science organization;
4) Provide strategic communications counsel and support to Pfizer and WRD senior management
teams;
5) Manage all organizational interactions with external media, including acting as media spokesperson on all relevant issues
6) Strengthen Pfizer's relationship with print and broadcast news organizations;
7) Influence the operating environment by gaining coverage for Pfizer/industry
perspectives;
8) Work effectively in cross-functional teams to advance communications strategy;
9) Act as corporate spokesperson for all topics within responsibility/area;
10) Work with appropriate divisions (i.e., Business Units, legal and regulatory) to develop specific plans to address key issues.
12) Manage two site-based team members; work with team members to drive local and regional coverage of WRD communications imperatives

Qualifications    10 to 12+ years of media relations, including experience in a preeminent pharmaceutical, biotech, medical, or other related research environment. A strong business background, as well as excellent managerial skills-preferably within a multinational organization-are essential. Strong spokesperson skills are a must. Also necessary is solid experience in dealing with significant issues management.

A strong, proven track record of delivering results for business clients. Candidates must be able to demonstrate success in working with all levels of senior corporate management. A strong, demonstrated record of achieving superior business results required. This position requires a person with a life history of pegging his/her personal
goals beyond what is simply required. Day-to-day direction, by the nature of the business, must be self-initiated. A strong, demonstrated record of influencing others, both internally and externally, across all levels of the organization is critical. Excellent presentation skills and persuasiveness are mandatory. A strong, demonstrated record of assuming ownership of results is also required. Excellent organizational, written and oral communication skills necessary. Ability to manage pressure, meet deadlines and monitor and evaluate results is essential.
