The director of government relations, under the supervision of the vice president for federal advocacy, will be responsible for managing the Alliance for Excellent Education's legislative and advocacy efforts.

S/he will work closely with the other members of the federal advocacy department and the policy department along with other Alliance staff to advance the Alliance's policy agenda in Congress, with the Department of Education, the White House and relevant education and civil rights organizations.

This individual will also work closely with relevant education and civil rights organizations, represent the Alliance in coalitions and work to develop coalitions around the Alliance's policy agenda; maintain strong knowledge of relevant federal policy, legislation, and regulations and emerging education issues, including analysis of the impact of such activity, and keep Alliance staff abreast of relevant issues; draft legislation/ legislative specs, policy memos, summaries or fact sheets, testimony, talking points and other documents to support the Alliance's policy agenda.
