This position is responsible
for regulatory, franchising and public policy matters for assigned geographic
area.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement legislative strategies, monitor legislation and coordinate state association management.
- Oversee corporate initiatives and community affairs activities.
- Direct and lead staff and project teams consisting of managers, professional and non-exempt employees.
- Develop and implement strategy for government affairs and public policy issues for specific franchises as well as strategy for local regulatory initiatives. Secure and maintain franchise operating authority for the company.
- Organize and direct all franchise renewal efforts in the assigned area, including developing and implementing franchise renewal strategies consistent with corporate guidelines; secure timely franchise renewals on acceptable terms; manage the maintenance of local franchise administration and database information; and ensure the timely delivery of franchise renewal notifications.
- Resolve complex and/or difficult franchise renewals, franchise transfers and franchise noncompliance issues, as required.
- Develop and maintain relationships with government representatives and regulators at the federal, state and local level. Travel to attend meetings, hearings or other events to represent the company.
- Manage outside counsel, consultants or lobbyists to implement strategies or initiatives.
- Provide leadership and supervision to Government and regulatory staff including staffing, performance management, compensation administration, office management, etc.
- Maintain community affairs budget(s).
- Oversee programming related to corporate initiatives and community affairs activities.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
- Regular, consistent and punctual attendance.
- Must be
able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) as necessary.
Required Skills:
- Bachelor's degree required (law related a plus).
- Minimum of 5-7 years' communications or government affairs experience.
- Cable background and legal experience a plus.
- Working knowledge of cable franchising and related issues.
- Ability to work in a self-directed, fast-paced environment a must.
- Superior written, oral and interpersonal skills required. Excellent project management and organizational skills. Previous interaction with elected officials and community organizations driving results.
- Expert
level working knowledge of MS/Office and professional presentations.
