The California State University, Northridge (CSUN), Department of University Advancement, seeks a proven professional to act as primary liaison, representing the university, to cultivate relationships with government officials, community organizations and opinion leaders, as well as, manage all campus activities and relationships with federal, state, and local officials, and their offices.
This exceptional opportunity allows the successful candidate to utilize strong diplomatic and communication skills to develop briefing materials, issue papers, and arrange campus tours and visits for elected officials. In addition, the Director will identify and establish business relationships with key community and opinion leaders, represent the university at events and community based meetings, and act as the liaison to the community through active membership in business and community organizations, social agencies, and homeowners associations.
The Director of Government and Community Relations will also lead efforts for CSU system wide advocacy with alumni, faculty, staff, and students; develop reports and publications to keep internal and external constituencies informed of university activities; pursue information from other areas within the university about existing and contemplated programs, projects, activities, and initiatives which may impact relationships and determine approaches for garnering community support and alleviate possible concerns.
Qualifications: Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree, Master's degree desirable. Equivalent to five years of progressively responsible experience in government or community relations and resource acquisition at the state and federal level. Demonstrated experience of the political process at local, state, and federal levels of government. Knowledge of public higher education in California to both the state and federal funding process. Ability to work with multiple constituencies and demonstrate diplomacy and strategic thinking; exhibit strong oral and written communication skills; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with government officials, community representatives, staff, faculty, students, and others.
