Primary Responsibilities:

Position directs the Federal and State legislative and government affairs activities for OSI. Recommends and implements strategies to influence government actions which affect OSI's business initiatives and strategy. This position will report to General Counsel and will be the only headcount within Government Affairs. Work location is negotiable, and can be field based. Extensive travel between Washington DC and Melville and/or Albany, NY is required.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with elected federal and state officials, legislators, regulators and agency officials. Educate and inform federal and state policy makers on priority issues important to OSI and on the specific impact issues and legislation has on a growing mid-cap biotechnology company.
  • Develop relationships and build influence network with trade/legislative associations, healthcare societies, patient and allied development organizations and other entities that influence public policy in order to influence legislation and public policy initiatives.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to effect legislative and regulatory proposals that have the potential to impact corporate objectives and interests.
  • Inform and counsel company management regarding federal and state legislative activity, regulatory initiatives, health policy issues and emerging issues that could have a significant impact on the company. Prepare legislative policy positions as needed.
  • Stay up to date on changing political landscape
  • Oversee contract lobbyists
Education/Experience Required:

Requires a Bachelor's Degree. An advanced degree in law, public policy or related discipline is strongly preferred. A minimum of 7 years of professional experience in government or industry developing and communicating public policy positions and strategies affecting the healthcare industry in the U.S. is required. Requires substantial knowledge of legislative and political practices, specifically on both the federal and state level. Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills are required. Ability to travel, including off-hours and weekends, is a necessity.
