Job Duties:
* Develop advocacy outreach plan and strategy to maximize the AIA's relationship with Executive Branch officials and agencies in pursuit of AIA advocacy agenda.
* Organize and convene meetings between high-level Executive Branch officials and AIA volunteer and staff leadership to advance AIA's strategic goals.
* Track and analyze federal agency rulemaking relevant to the architecture profession and propose changes to federal regulations that advance AIA's agenda.
* Brief senior AIA leadership on regulatory issues relevant to the architecture profession.
* Work with the AIA state and local advocacy teams and AIA state and local chapters on regulatory advocacy initiatives, including analysis of regulatory issues, development of model regulatory reforms, and advocacy efforts to promote regulatory change
* Work with AIA the Board Advocacy Committee, Codes and Standards Advisory Group, and other AIA volunteer stakeholders on initiatives to promote code adoption at the state and local levels.
* Develop and direct the AIA's federal procurement advocacy program.
* Serve as the AIA staff representative to the AIA Federal Architecture Task Group and Federal Agency Liaison Group.
* Serve as AIA staff representative to federal agency initiatives that affect the architectural profession, including international architectural exhibitions and disaster relief.
* Coordinate partnering agreements between AIA and federal agencies.
* Coordinate AIA appointments to various Executive Branch boards and bodies.
* Prepare articles for AIArchitect, Angle, etc., on federal regulatory and agency issues.
* Write briefs, reports, position papers, etc., on issues related to federal agency activities.
* Speak on behalf of the AIA at conferences and meetings on issues important to federal regulations and the architecture profession.
Training and Experience:
Considerable knowledge of the federal government and its regulatory and rulemaking agencies, including knowledge of the federal procurement process. Experience in speaking extemporaneously before groups to inform and persuade. Skill in communicating complex ideas both in writing and orally. Skill in designing and implementing programs that increase exposure to interest areas and working as part of a larger team. Skill in facilitation, team building, collaborative problem solving, conflict resolution, and negotiation and active listening. Demonstrated success working in a team environment through coordination and communication of delegated responsibilities; communicating ideas and issues with tact and diplomacy; and resolving problems collaboratively among members, collateral organizations/agencies, and the AIA staff.
J.D. and a minimum of five years relevant experience and two-to-three years in Executive Branch experience required. Experience in advocacy or association environments, experience with the federal procurement process and/or design/construction/real estate industry experience a plus.
