Director, of Federal Agency Relations

Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is seeking a talented individual for the Director, of Federal Agency Relations position located in HFHI Office of Government Relations located in Washington DC. This person will be working with Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI), other members of the HFHI Office of Government Relations and Advocacy and HFHI senior leadership, the Director of Federal Agency Relations will be the principal Washington interface with key federal agencies and administration officials, playing a critical role in developing, maintaining, and enhancing relationships with such federal agencies and officials. These agencies include HUD, CNCS, Treasury, FHLB, Energy, Agriculture, FEMA, Treasury and others.

Habitat for Humanity is a federation of HFHI and more than 1,500 U.S. affiliates. Consequently, it is essential that the Director of Federal Agency Relations understand the needs and priorities of affiliates and work closely with Habitat's U.S. Office staff to effectively represent those needs to federal agencies.

The position will:

Manage HFHI's federal regulatory affairs

Identify legislative impediments or oversights in regulations that govern programs of interest to HFH and seek regulatory solutions and improvements

Collaborate with and seek input from affiliates on regulatory obstacles to their use of federal programs and potential solutions

In connection with federal program enhancements and appropriations, the Director will partner with the Director of US Legislative Affairs to seek programmatic opportunities and adequate appropriations

The position will be responsible for anticipating, indentifying, or creating additional federal policy opportunities to further the work of HFHI and its affiliates

Review the Federal Register regularly to indentify regulatory proposals and federal announcements that impact HFHI and HFH affiliates

Draft and submit comments as appropriate

Develop materials and provide technical assistance for affiliates and US field staff on federal programs of interest

Work as a team member in the Office of Government Relations and Advocacy and work collaboratively with HFHI staff at all levels

Some travel required

Required Skills

Bachelor's Degree

6-10 years related work experience (preferably in working in the Washington DC environment and in the NGO/non-profit sector)

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Ability to make quick and effective decisions

Expert management skills

Willingness to work in a team environment

Graduate degree strongly preferred

Ability to interpret governmental regulations and influence federal policy and regulation needed
