Complexity
of Role:
Candidate must
be able to work seamlessly across the North America business to ensure all
communication needs are met. Must understand public perception and how it can
impact the company's conduct of business.
Responsibility:
a) Reports to
Sr. Director, Corporate Communications
b) Work
closely with Exec members to develop meaningful and consistent corporate
messaging.
c) Drive
external communications program that supports investor relations, government
affairs, and commercial business to convey business objectives and performance,
and that positions company as leader in innovation, marketing, social
responsibility and multicultural activities.
d) Develop
and maintain relationships with key trade, business and local media.
e) Serve as
corporate spokesperson with the media.
f) Directly
supervise one employee. Interact on regular basis with Exec and senior leaders,
as well as cadre of outside comms specialists
Decision
Making:
1) Able to
provide communications counsel and guidance to senior executives.
2) Understand
communications and its role in shaping the company culture and performance.
4) Recommend
specific responses/statements for executives in response to unexpected or
controversial enquires focusing on Diageo and/or its brands.
Key
Outputs/Deliverables:
1. Identify,
develop and execute strategic external communications strategy that conveys
business objectives, performance and culture that aims to position company as a
leader among investors, distributors, policy makers and current and potential
employees.
2. Work with
Execs on message development.
3. Ensure
responsibility messaging across all communication materials.
4. Evaluate
and recommend executive speaking engagements
5. Ensure
consistent messaging across all comms vehicles
6. Liaise with
London and other IMC comms teams to ensure consistency of messaging
Experience:
a) Excellent
writing skills.
b) Media
relations experience, spokesperson experience.
c) Agency
Management
d)
Demonstrated leadership (6 to 8 years experience) working with cross-functional
teams
e) College
graduate
f) Excellent
communicator with very strong verbal and written comms skills
g) Ability to
think on one's feet and respond appropriately to potential crisis situations.
h) Ability to
provide communications counsel to senior executives.
i) Successful
experience working with the public face of sensitive or politically complex
issues.
j) Able to
handle multiple complex issues and projects simultaneously.
