Position Summary:
This position is responsible for representing Thermo Fisher Scientific before European Union (EU) institutions, including the European Parliament, Council and Commission, on public policy issues of importance to the company. The person will work out of Brussels, Belgium, and report to the Director of Government Relations and Public Affairs in Waltham, MA, and the Vice President of Sales-Europe.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify Thermo Fisher management, business and technical experts who can provide insights and perspective on how public policy proposals affect the company.
- Work with Thermo Fisher colleagues to identify priority issues and develop company positions on relevant public policy proposals.
- Collaborate with EU-based government relations consultants and Thermo Fisher employees engaging in government relations and public affairs initiatives.
- Monitor developments on priority issues and identity public policy proposals that may impact the company.
- Establish strong relationships with appropriate public policy makers and opinion leaders to support business objectives.
- Establish a profile for Thermo Fisher in Brussels that is positive, credible and influential.
- Represent Thermo Fisher in various trade and business associations.
- Develop and execute strategies to influence EU public policy consistent with Thermo Fisher's values and business interests and government relations initiatives world-wide.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
- Established network of political, association and business contacts in Brussels.
- Strong familiarity with the EU structure and decision-making process.
- Proven ability to successfully advocate public policy positions.
- A background in relevant public policy issues, and the ability to learn new issues quickly.
- Self-starter and able to work effectively in a geographically diverse organization.
- Reputation for behaving with uncompromising integrity.
Non-Negotiable Hiring Criteria:
- College degree required.
- At least 5 years of experience in a government relations position.
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills.
- Fluency in English and two other main European languages is preferred.
