Position Summary:
The Director of Employee Communications will develop and propose the strategic direction, guide implementation, and help execute the company's employee communications efforts globally. She/He works closely with senior executives to ensure consistent, clear and meaningful communications.
Key Responsibilities:
-Develop and implement strategic communications designed to instill among employees a sense of pride in working for Thermo Fisher and to enable them to be more productive in their jobs
-Design communications that will help employees better understand the scope of our business, our values, mission and vision, our business processes and how their work contributes to the company's success
-Develop and manage employee communications through numerous channels, including face-to-face, print, e-mail, intranet and other channels that may not yet be in use
-Act as a key advisor to senior leadership in creating and refining key employee messages, speeches and presentations and develop strategies that deliver these messages
-Responsible for overseeing the development of the company's SharePoint intranet to meet existing and future business needs and to create a platform that enables employees to more effectively connect and collaborate
-Support and create employee involvement in the company's social responsibility initiatives
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
-Self-starter, detail-oriented, pro-active, able to work independently as well as in teams
-Ability to quickly grasp complex subject matter and translate it into messaging that is easily understood by employees at all levels; ability to determine which information is appropriate for which audiences and for which channels
-Demonstrated ability to influence others, especially at the executive level
-Must be able to think strategically within the ‘big picture' framework of the company, while also finding innovative ways to work with others in the businesses to localize the company's messages
-Experience in (non-technical) intranet development to ensure optimum effectiveness for employees, including use of social media; SharePoint experience highly preferred
-Ability to work well under pressure and tight deadlines
-Experience in leading employee communications during an acquisition a strong plus; experience in crisis communications and organizational change are musts
-Demonstrated experience in managing multiple, complex projects simultaneously, developing metrics and delivering measurable results
-Excellent management and leadership skills, including the ability to manage remotely
-Commitment to company values, Integrity, Innovation, Intensity and Involvement
-Awareness and sensitivity to cultural considerations in countries where the company has a large presence
-Partner with other corporate functions, such as marketing and human resources, to align overall company messages to employees
Non-Negotiable Hiring Criteria:
-Minimum of 10 years of experience in employee communications for a large, global, publicly traded company
-Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, English, or related field
-Minimum of five years of experience in interacting with executive leadership and making recommendations for employee communications messaging and strategy, based on needs
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills
