Develop and implement external communications strategies targeted to business and financial media, investors, customers and other critical audiences that build awareness and understanding of the company's business strategy, long-term growth potential, positions on key issues, and innovative products and services - particularly in the education market; protect and enhance the reputation of The McGraw-Hill Companies and its businesses; and position the company as a thought leader and a successful, growing, innovative provider of a broad range of global publishing, education and financial information services.

Essential Accountabilities:

  • McGraw-Hill Education Thought Leadership

    Working closely with communications leadership and senior management at McGraw-Hill Education (MHE) to develop and drive a dynamic thought leadership campaign to position the company as the partner of choice for educators.  This includes:

    • Developing and implementing effective communications strategies and messages to communicate the company's leadership in delivering innovative, digital education solutions that help improve instruction and learning for teachers and students around the world, and help nations build the skilled workforces necessary for economic growth and development

    • Securing feature stories in print and broadcast media that feature MHE's innovative education solutions

    • Securing high-profile media opportunities (including broadcast interviews and op-ed placements) for MHE executives and McGraw-Hill's Chairman to discuss the importance of education and MHE's leadership in helping students acquire the 21st Century skills they need to be competitive

    • Helping MHE raise its profile with educators, parents, students and government agencies through new marketing and communications programs

  •  Crisis Communications - Including Litigation Planning

    Helping Corporate Communications and the Business Segments effectively communicate the company's positions and activities related to potentially franchise-impacting issues, business challenges, and crisis situations. This includes:

    • Providing counsel to communications colleagues and business leaders on the most effective strategies/responses
    • Helping develop and deliver effective messaging that advocates the company's positions on important issues and mitigates the negative coverage
    • Helping with litigation scenario planning, research and message development
    • Issues Management Support

      Working with Corporate Communications colleagues on placement of the Chairman's op-eds, bylines articles and broadcast opportunities

    •  Corporate and Financial Communications Support
      Providing backup support to Director of Corporate Media Relations on major corporate announcements (earnings, dividends, M&A, executive appointments, etc.).  Depending on the announcement, this could include:

      • Editing and proofing news releases and briefing materials

      • Pitching announcements to print and broadcast media outlets
      • Extensive experience in strategic communications planning; developing and implementing successful media campaigns; and crisis/issues management.

      • Seven+ years of public relations/media relations experience in an agency or corporate environment. 

      • Strong contacts with news media.

      • Strong track record of high-profile media placements in leading national and international outlets.

      • Experience identifying and managing external communications resources.

      • Experience working on regulatory and legislative issues.

      • Excellent writing skills.

      • Ability to work with and be equally well received by all levels of employees.

      • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism or related fie
