Director of Communications and Policy

The Alliance for Natural Health USA seeks a Communications and Policy Director, who will be responsible for coordinating grassroots outreach projects, working closely with the media and advancing ANH-USA's legislative and administrative interests before Congress, the Administration, and State Legislatures.

ANH-USA is a very small but extremely busy membership based non-profit organization located at Dupont Circle in Washington, DC. ANH-USA is part of an international organization dedicated to promoting sustainable healthcare and freedom of choice in healthcare through good science and good law. We protect the right of natural-health practitioners to practice and the right of consumers to choose the healthcare options they prefer.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Policy development: Monitor current campaign activity and develop new policy areas to tackle. Analyze and create new avenues to achieve policy goals based on current political climates and hot issues.
Campaign strategy: Create a plan to win on our campaigns; strategize how to gain political support through coalition-building, grassroots organizing, media publicity, endorsements and message development.
Campaign support: Develop and draft appropriate materials to achieve our goals, including administrative comments, legislative testimony, fact sheets, educational reports, and campaign materials for our web site.
Media outreach: Educate the public about our campaigns through media events, press releases, and other appropriate PR tactics.

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor's (B.A./B.S.) degree or equivalent in Public Policy or related discipline. Advanced degree preferred.

Experience: 3+ years of Capitol Hill or other legislative experience, preferably involving integrative health or environmental issues.

Extensive grassroots and media-related experience required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

Strong writing, media, and verbal communications skills;
Ability to conduct research, analyze information, and produce quality work products in a consistent, efficient, and timely manner;
Ability to effectively lead and/or represent ANH-USA interests in national issue coalitions; and
Other relevant experience with public policy, education, grassroots organizing, communications, editing, and/or development.
