The
University of North Carolina Health Care System and
the UNC School of Medicine (UNC) seek a talented, dynamic and experienced
communications professional to serve as Medical News Director. In this role,
the Medical News Director will develop a long-term strategy and implement
communications programs to increase the presence of the UNC School of
Medicine's and Health Care System's national reputation for cutting-edge
research and quality patient care. The Medical News Director will oversee and
contribute to all efforts to promote work from and build public awareness of
the UNC medical community. In addition, the Medical News Director will empower
news team staff to reach departmental goals and objectives. Reporting to the
vice president of public affairs and marketing, this individual will be the key
spokesperson for the UNC medical community and manage information presented to
the media.

Job Requirements
A master's degree in public relations, communications, journalism or a related field; or 10 years of experience in the communications field; direct management experience preferred.
Skills required: budget preparation, medical knowledge (general), presentation skills, project management, computer knowledge and electronic communications including social media.
