The Community Affairs Director is responsible for the development and implementation of Houston Region Community Affairs. The Director also serves as the North America Helios Awards Program Director, working directly with the Global Helios Awards Team. The Director also supports the EA Manager in the BPA D&I agenda and objectives.
Key accountabilities
- Manage programs including the implementation of program-related outreach and marketing efforts ensuring business support;
- Recommend expansion or redirection opportunities for all projects within the portfolio of projects;
- Develop and recommend budgets to support ongoing and new programs, including the identification and acquisition or resources to execute programs;
- Manage contracts for 3rd party consultants/vendors and contractor associated with programs;
- Recommend means to evaluate and measure programs effectiveness and develop and implement strategy for programs; and
- Implement the North America Helios Awards.
- Advise business on community affairs and community investment.
- Successfully represent BP with a variety of external audiences in a way that supports BP's values and businesses.
- Propose, plan, and develop events to leverage community investments including working on message development, news releases and advertising.
- Work as part of a regional GPA team to develop and implement strategies which support the business, enhance BP's reputation, and improve key relationships.
- Implements the BPA D&I agenda consistent with the BPA D&I goals and objectives.
- BS / BA required
- Significant and Extensive experience in public and community affairs (7+ years)
- Demonstrates commitment to the BP reputation and brand - leadership in setting and promoting excellence in the delivery of BPA advocacy / policy objectives.
- Able to clearly and effectively carry out two-way communications to achieving distinctive performance
- Builds a network of relationships (internal and external) as a means of learning and of influencing change.
- Able to understand and communicate effectively with others to achieve value added results and sustained relationships.
- Manage and leverage planned and existing community investment and community relations programs and identify new opportunities for community involvement and investment.
- Manages 3rd party relationships to maintain commercial alignment within the contractual framework.
- Recruit employee volunteers, and coordinate BP leadership, staff and volunteer participation in events.
- Monitor upcoming and emerging external issues that challenge BP's reputation or business objectives and develop plans to effectively respond.
- Be flexible and able to work with colleagues in multiple locations.
- A high level of energy and self-motivation to work in complex and ambiguous environments; flexibility to changing environments and requirements.
