The World Cocoa Foundation (WCF) is a non-profit organization founded in 2000 for the purpose of promoting social and economic development as well as environmental stewardship in cocoa-growing communities. The foundation is a membership-based organization with approximately 70 member companies involved in the cocoa and chocolate industries around the world, representing over 80% of the global market. The foundation is based in Washington, DC and supports programs that benefit farmers in cocoa-growing regions of Africa, Southeast Asia and the Americas. Specific program activities include training for farmers and communities, as well as applied scientific research.
WCF is seeking a Communications Manager to lead our global communications efforts. The position will be based at the Washington, DC office. Compensation is commensurate with experience; not to exceed $50,000 per year in addition to full benefits.
Position Requirements:
- Self-starter who is energetic and creative
- At least five years experience in communications, public relations
- Degree in communications, journalism, marketing or related field
- Experience working for non-profits involved in international development or agriculture is preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with social media and online communications
- Experience with web site management
- Ability to work collaboratively with others as well as independently
- Good graphic design skills preferred
- Proficiency in at least one foreign language (French and/or Spanish) desirable.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Implement ongoing communications activities such as preparation of press releases, newsletters, etc.
- Develop external communications materials for the organizations, such as PowerPoint presentations and talking points, brochures, press kits, annual program book
- Review program materials (fact sheets, reports, talking points) to assure consistent messaging and organizational branding.
- Participate in event/conference planning
- Redesign and maintain the World Cocoa Foundation website.
- Support the work of the communications committee
