Communications Consultant

(Short-Term, Part-Time Position)

The World Cocoa Foundation (WCF) is a non-profit organization founded in 2000 for the purpose of promoting social and economic development as well as environmental stewardship in cocoa-growing communities. The foundation is a membership-based organization with approximately 70 member companies involved in the cocoa and chocolate industries around the world, representing over 80% of the global market.  The foundation is based in Washington, DC and supports programs that benefit farmers in cocoa-growing regions of Africa, Southeast Asia and the Americas. Specific program activities include training for farmers and communities, as well as applied scientific research. 

WCF is seeking a Communications Consultant to assist with communications strategy and implementation.  This is a short-term (July to December 2010), part-time (25-30 hours per week) consulting position.  The consultant will be based at the Washington, DC office with some opportunity to work from home.  Compensation is commensurate with experience; not to exceed $24,000 for the six-month period.

Position Requirements:

- 5-10 years experience in communications, public relations or a related field

- Degree in communications, journalism, marketing or related field

- Experience working for non-profits involved in international development or agriculture is preferred

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

- Experience with social media and online communications

- Ability to work collaboratively with others as well as independently

- Graphic design skills are a plus

 

Specific Responsibilities:

- Engage in ongoing communications activities such as preparation of press releases, newsletters, etc.

- Complete 5-6 projects such as the development of presentations (PowerPoint and talking points), brochures, flyers, and a press kit.

- Assist with event/conference planning

- Support the work of the communications committee
