Associate Director for State & Chapter Affairs

The March of Dimes Foundation is a national voluntary health agency whose volunteers and staff work to improve the health of women and of infants and children by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. Founded in 1938 by Franklin Roosevelt, the Foundation funds programs of research, community services, education, and advocacy.  There are Chapters in every state including Puerto Rico.

The primary purpose of the Associate Director of State & Chapter Affairs is to promote the Foundation's public policy agenda by supporting state advocacy efforts.  The position is located in the Office of Government Affairs in Washington, D.C.

Responsibilities

  • Managestate public affairs, including issue development and legislative and regulatory initiatives related to maternal and child health policy, by working with Chapter public affairs staff and contract lobbyists nationwide.
  • Oversee the public affairs grants program awarded to Chapters.
  • Work with key staff to utilizemedia, social networks, and grassroots outreach to advance advocacy efforts.
  • Plan and facilitatetraining activities including nationalconferences and Webinars.
  • Serve as a liaison to internal and external groups.
  • Develop public affairs materials such as fact sheets and testimony.
  • Some required travel.

Qualifications/Skills

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Three to five years experience in state government affairs and/or in legislative and regulatory analysis
  • Familiarity with grassroots recruitment and management
  • Excellent written,verbal and interpersonal skills
  • High degree of teamwork, organizational and project management skills
  • Experience in training is preferred
  • Experience in maternal and child health a plus
