Associate Director, Public Affairs

Description: Working as the deputy to the Director of Public Affairs, the Associate Director will have direct operational oversight of the Elliott School's communications enterprise, including public events, publications, website management, and the school's new Web Video Initiative.

Develops, organizes, and implements the School's wide-ranging special events. This includes identifying speakers and topics, drafting invitation letters, scheduling the event, audience development, and publicity.

Oversees the school's Web Video Initiative. This includes ensuring select events are recorded and posted on the website, as well developing a plan for new and different web video products to include short-form video features, video news releases, highlight clips, etc.

Promotes faculty research and student and alumni achievements through the website and electronic newsletter in the form of video highlights, feature stories, and/or news releases.

Oversees departmental budget

Supervisors and manages assistant director, webmaster, and departmental assistant in absence of Director

Other duties as assigned by the director.

 

Qualification:
A Bachelor's degree in an applicable field (i.e. international affairs, communications, journalism, etc.). A Master's degree is desirable.

A minimum of three years of professional experience that includes at least two years of communications or public affairs, event management, media relations and/or the development of promotional material.

Experience using new media, including social networking and online video.

Excellent writing skills.

Minimum of one year in a supervisory/management role.

Experience working in international affairs a plus; knowledge of international issues is essential.
