Associate Director, Public Affairs

The Associate Director, Public Affairs, will be responsible for public relations and communication initiatives to support Biogen Idecs neurology franchise with particular focus on TYSABRI. The position will report into the Director, Public Affairs, who oversees corporate reputation and communication initiatives as well as public relations across the companys therapeutic areas. This Associate Director will be based in Cambridge but expected to spend two-three days a week in Wellesley, where the commercial team is based.


Primary Responsibilities


- Developing and implementing strategic and creative PR campaigns to support and help drive TYSABRI marketing and sales goals
- Developing communications strategy and implementing plans around key product and pipeline data readouts, milestones and medical meetings for the neurology franchise, as well as cardiovascular and blood-factor pipeline programs
- Developing competitive blunting strategies to ensure share of voice for Biogen Idecs marketed multiple sclerosis (MS) products and pipeline programs
- Conceiving and executing on ideas to build and drive companys reputation and position as a leader in MS
- Developing and implementing crisis preparedness and response plans for TYSABRI and AVONEX
- Proactively building relationships with key US health, consumer, business and trade media to raise visibility for the companys neurology products and pipeline programs
- Serving as primary point of contact for US media on news and stories related to the companys neurology products and pipeline programs, as well as for the companys cardiovascular and blood-factor pipeline programs
- Responsible for managing the PR agencies working on the companys neurology, cardiovascular and hemophilia products and pipeline programs and serving as primary point of contact

Qualifications

- Minimum 8-10 years in public relations, including agency or corporate experience
- Strong background in product PR campaigns
- Media-relations experience, particularly with consumer, health and trade media
- Excellent strategic thinking and tactical execution skills
- Excellent written, verbal and leadership communication skills
- Ability to work closely and collaboratively with counterparts in neurology marketing, as well as other members of the public affairs department, in a time-sensitive environment
- Ability to handle and manage issues and crisis scenarios
- Ability to manage outside PR agencies
- Strong initiative and ability to multi-task
