Job Description - Jewish Community Relations Council of the Jewish Federation of Cincinnati

Title: Associate Director for Israel and Government Relations

Summary: The JCRC Associate Director for Israel and Government Relations is responsible for working with the JCRC Board and Federation leadership in the development, implementation, and administration of the Jewish Federation's Israel advocacy and government relations agenda. This individual is the principal liaison between the Jewish community and government officials. She or he advocates on behalf of Israel, as well as for local Jewish communal priorities. The Associate Director for Israel and Government Relations serves as the Israel advocacy voice of the Jewish Federation to the community at large. She or he develops and maintains constructive working relationships with the Jewish and non-Jewish communities to promote Jewish security locally, nationally and internationally, with particular focus on Israel and the Middle East. This individual will report to JCRC President and CEO of the Jewish Federation of Cincinnati, and work closely with the JCRC Associate Director for Community Relations.

Detailed Duties:

1.    Work with JCRC Board and staff, as well as Federation staff to set the overall Israel advocacy and government relations direction for the JCRC.
2.    Represent the JCRC and Jewish Federation in initiating, developing and nurturing relationships with key Cincinnati decision makers, in particular with elected officials and other policy makers.
3.    Meet with elected officials and other policy makers to educate and advocate for Jewish communal priorities and the ongoing safety of Israel.
4.    Develop the JCRC's and Federation's advocacy "voice" and communicate, educate and advocate to the broader community on issues relating to Jewish communal concerns, in particular Israel and the Middle East. Educational/advocacy efforts include writing, issuing statements, event planning, public speaking, etc.
5.    Work closely with Federation's Israel Department staff (i.e. Shaliach, Chaverim M'Israel/Friends from Israel Coordinator and Chaverim), as well as with the JCRC Associate Director for Community Relations.
6.    Assist in coordination and staffing of JCRC/Federation Missions to Israel.
7.    Staff JCRC's Government Relations Committee and develop the Jewish community's overall Government Relations Agenda.
8.    Coordinate the JCRC's involvement in the Ohio Jewish Communities Government Affairs Committee.
9.    Develop political leadership development training programs and initiatives for the Jewish community.
10.    Participate in a variety of Jewish and non-Jewish organizations to maintain the Jewish community's most important networks and contacts (e.g. elected officials, Israel advocacy)
11.    Interface with Rabbis and other Jewish professionals to update them on JCRC issues pertaining to Israel and government affairs.
12.    Maintain visibility as a public speaker at community programs.
13.    Work with the Associate Director for Community Relations and Federation CEO to develop, track and maintain the JCRC budget.
 
Qualifications/Skills:

The JCRC Associate Director for Israel and Government Relations must possess the following skills:

1.    Strategic thinking - the ability to help develop long-term goals for the JCRC.
2.    Strong communication skills, particularly in writing, advocacy and public speaking.
3.    Extensive knowledge of current events and history of Israel and Middle East issues.
4.    Knowledge of and experience with the political process on national, state and local levels.
5.    Experience working with coalitions of organizations focusing on similar mandates.
6.    Passionate commitment to Jewish community, Israel and public policy issues.
7.    Ability to develop reasonable success metrics for program evaluation.
