The Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) invites applications for the Associate Director of its Center for Transatlantic Relations. Reporting to the Director, this position requires expertise in transatlantic relations, project management, organizational and representational skills, research and financial planning capabilities and familiarity with foreign policy making processes.
Optimally the Associate Director would be a member of the SAIS faculty and should be qualified to teach graduate level courses. He/she also represents the program and hosts a wide range of events; therefore applicants must possess the ability to work with very senior level government officials, Members of Congress, local and international business leaders and foreign dignitaries. Expertise in U.S. foreign policy, contemporary international political, security and economic issues, and the dynamics of such international organizations such as the European Union and NATO is essential to this position, as is the ability to write policy-oriented research papers and to organize and lead research projects and policy-oriented study groups. Another critical element of the position is to assume fundraising responsibilities in identifying potential funders in North America and Europe; developing strategies for approaching funders, writing narratives and presenting proposals to funders.
A Ph.D. along with government, business, media experience in international relations and/or transatlantic relations is required. Speaking proficiency in a European language other than English is a plus.
