Assistant to the Political Programs Analyst

Position Overview

Assistant to the Political Programs Analyst will enable the company to expand its public policy activity and grow its advocacy impact through a more expansive grassroots and PAC program, reporting directly to the Political Programs Analyst and located in the DC office.

Responsibilities

  • Support the activities of the Spirit PAC Board of Directors and Advisory Committee.
  • Assist in the evaluation of candidates for elective office who may subsequently be considered for a corporate or Spirit PAC contribution.
  • Assist  in the recruitment and growth of Spirit PAC, including managing the website and related communications, working in close collaboration with Human Resources, Communications, IT and the PAC Accountant and Treasurer.
  • Assist  in the administration and processes involving corporate contributions.
  • Assist  in the compliance and ethics reporting of political-related expenditures; preparation of reports to the Public Policy and Compliance & Ethics Committees; annual audit of the PAC; and bi-annual audit of all other corporate political contributions.
  • Support  both internal and external grassroots advocacy efforts.
  • Assist  in special projects, such as Get-Out-The-Vote; updating the corporate political training module; company reports on government affairs and sustainable development activities, etc.

Basic/Required

  • Legally authorized to work in the US
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience

Preferred

  • BA/BS degree
  • Highly motivated, ethical and professional
  • Direct/indirect energy industry experience
  • Strong communication and writing skills, including presentation skills
  • Ability to analyze information and understand political impact
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize projects and meet deadlines
  • Strong sense of teamwork; close coordination with Political Engagement Coordinator
  • Exposure and experience with grass roots and PAC operations
  • Working knowledge of the process and implementation of state laws and regulations impacting domestic oil and natural gas operations
  • Interest and understanding of how government functions.  Knowledge of political process at the state and federal levels
