Assistant Director, Public Health and Scientific Affairs

The Assistant Director is a key role on the Public Health and Scientific Affairs (PHSA) team and will be responsible for the identification, analysis and interpretation of federal legislative and regulatory issues under the jurisdiction of the Public Health Agencies of HHS with an emphasis on health information technology (HIT).  S/he will develop policy, formulate and implement the strategic plan and prepare appropriate CAP responses as necessary on relevant issues related to HIT, laboratory quality, etc.

In addition, the Assistant Director will also communicate and advocate CAP policy to federal government agencies such as ONCHIT, CMS, CDC, HRSA, AHRQ, NIH, FDA and associated advisory committees, as well as provide staff support to the appropriate CAP committees to include the Public Health Policy Committee and the Council on Government and Professional Affairs.

The candidate we seek will possess an advanced degree in Public Health, Health Policy/Public Policy or similar relevant area.  A minimum of 5 years experience in policy analysis and interpretation of health policy legislation and regulations is required, as well as significant prior experience with HIT policy.  Knowledge of pathology and/or laboratory medicine issues is preferred and prior federal agency, Congressional, medical society, corporate Washington office or association experience is considered a plus.

In addition, it will be essential for candidates to have superior communication skills with the ability to work closely with staff in a team environment and CAP members to formulate and implement strategy on controversial and complex issues and in adverse political environments.

*  Use of these products enable laboratories to regularly evaluate their performance and improve the accuracy of the patient results they provide. Participating laboratories receive a report of their performance and, to benchmark their performance, a report summarizing the results of all participating laboratories.
