Assistant Director, Federal Affairs

The American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) is recruiting for the position, Assistant Director, Federal Affairs.

AAPA is the national voice for physician assistants (PAs) in all medical and surgical specialties. Today there are over 76,000 practicing PAs in the United States and approximately 12,000 students in 145 PA programs. AAPA has an annual operating budget of approximately $17 million and a staff of 70. Our office is located in Alexandria, Virginia.

The Assistant Director assists with implementation of the Academy's federal legislative and regulatory affairs program to secure enactment of favorable laws and regulations that promote optimal patient access to the quality medical care provided by physician assistants and that advance public health and other health policies adopted by the AAPA House of Delegates.

The Assistant Director represents AAPA on Capitol Hill and in front of the Administration, and assists in AAPA's political advocacy and congressional visit activities, advocating on issues of importance to AAPA and the PA profession and building and maintaining strong working relationships with Members of Congress and staff, appropriate federal agencies, and allied organizations and coalitions.

The successful candidates will have a Bachelor's degree and 3-5 years of responsible professional experience working on federal legislative and regulatory issues, preferably related to health care. Preference will be given to experience in a national association, corporate lobbying office or as congressional staff.
