Position Summary:
Open Channels Group, a minority-owned public affairs firm located in downtown Fort Worth, is seeking a highly motivated individual to assist the company in its public affairs efforts. The ideal candidate will perform a broad array of fundamental public participation tasks. The candidate will serve as the primary assistant for the vice president of public affairs.
Duties:
Open Channels Group is looking for an assistant account executive to assist the vice president of public affairs on a variety of client and internal projects. The candidate must be able to work full time (40-50 hours/week) and handle the following tasks:
- Assist with public participation client projects. This will include, but is not limited to the following:
- Stakeholder database compilation and communication
- Public participation campaign planning and execution
- Compiling and distributing meeting minutes
- Conducting research
- Compile and distribute the weekly Open Channels Group Pre-Council Report and any project-related Fort Worth City Council reporting.
- Establish and maintain relationships with municipal, regional and state agency staff, clients and potential clients.
- Communicate on a daily basis with the vice president of public affairs about projects and any issues that may arise.
- Assist in brainstorming and creating targeted messaging for public participation campaigns.
- Prepare written materials such as letters, reports, project fact sheets and other correspondence as needed.
- Review outgoing and/or internal documents and materials for quality assurance and quality control.
- Support other Open Channels Group departments and projects and perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Candidates must have an equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in public administration and/or urban planning. At least three years of professional experience in public administration and/or urban planning is preferred.
Must be a strong planner who is details oriented with a capacity to understand municipal, state and federal agency regulations. Must function well in a team environment, must have the ability to work well under pressure in a small firm atmosphere, and must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and internet skills. Strong interpersonal and verbal/written communications skills are a must.
Candidates should be driven and independent self-starters willing to learn and work on several projects at once. Must have the ability and confidence to follow up and follow through on projects without requiring extensive micromanagement. Results-oriented with willingness to take responsibility and initiative. Must have the ability to show good judgment and to effectively respond and problem solve.
