RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Area Director will be responsible for helping to execute the company's government and public affairs activities in New York. He/she will manage the regional government affairs operations in the three general New York areas where Cablevision operates: Long Island, New York City and the Lower Hudson Valley (Westchester, Rockland, Putnam and Dutchess counties). Job functions include maintaining relationships with local, state and federal government offices; coordination and management of the cable television franchising process; implementation of public affairs initiatives; and, support of legislative strategies.
Local, State and Federal Government Relations & Legislative Support: The Area Director will help maintain and advance relationships at the county, state and federal level in support of Cablevision's business objectives and legislative interests. He/she will work collaboratively with others on the team to build and maintain relationships that can help advance the public policy goals of the company.
Cable Television Franchising and Management: Cablevision provides cable television service under franchise agreements negotiated with each of the 220 municipalities it serves in this region. The Area Director will have responsibility for leading efforts to manage the franchise renewal process including plan design and implementation.
Coordination of Public Affairs Initiatives: The Area Director will lead a team that helps develop, coordinate and execute the public affairs agenda of the company including its Power to Learn program for grades K-12. In addition, the Area Director will be responsible for coordinating other public affairs initiatives including the strategic use of the company's programming resources and the development / execution of a charitable contribution plan.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong managerial skills and an ability to work collaboratively with a larger cross-functional team are critical.
- Ten or more years of experience in the telecommunications industry or another regulated industry.
- Equivalent experience in the legislative or regulatory arena at the local, state or federal level, particularly in New York State is a prerequisite.
- The candidate should have a college degree; another advanced or legal degree is also helpful.
- Excellent written and oral advocacy skills and the ability to handle a fast-paced work environment is essential.
- The candidate should possess strong managerial and organizational skills, political instincts and the ability to strategically plan and execute.
