Description:
This position reports to the Vice President of Government & Public Affairs located in Cablevision's corporate headquarters in Bethpage, New York. The Area Director for the Rocky Mountain Region will have responsibility for executing the company's legislative, government and public affairs activities and strategies in Wyoming, Montana, Colorado and Utah. Job functions include the following: advancement and execution of legislative policy; development and maintenance of relationships with local, state and federal government offices; cable television franchising and management; and, the coordination and implementation of public affairs initiatives.
Legislative Policy: The Area Director will have primary responsibility for the development and coordination of legislative policy related to cable television, telecommunications and related matters in each state. Position includes extensive work at state capitals in each jurisdiction and at administrative/regulatory agencies.
Local, State and Federal Government Relations: Cablevision operates in approximately 150 municipalities in the Rocky Mountain Region. The company also has policy interests at the county, state and federal level. The Area Director will help build, maintain and advance relationships that are important to the company in each of the states, at all levels of government.
Cable Television Franchising and Management: Cablevision provides cable television service under franchise agreements negotiated with each of the approximately 150 municipalities it serves in the Rocky Mountain Region. The Area Director will have responsibility for managing the franchise renewal process, maintaining franchise compliance and for negotiating and securing renewal agreements.
Coordination of Public Affairs Initiatives: The Area Director will help develop, coordinate and execute the public affairs agenda of the company, which includes its signature community initiative, Power To Learn. Power To Learn enhances K-12 learning by making technology more useful in the classroom. Cablevision implements a variety of Power To Learn programs in schools and libraries across each state. In addition, the Area Director will be responsible for coordinating other public affairs initiatives including the strategic use of the company's local programming resources and by developing and executing, strategically, a charitable contribution plan.
Qualifications:
Ten or more years of experience in the cable and/or telecommunications industry or another regulated industry. Equivalent experience in the legislative or regulatory arena at the local, state or federal level, particularly in one or more of the states in the Rocky Mountain Region is a prerequisite. The candidate should have a college degree; another advanced or legal degree is also helpful. Excellent written and oral advocacy skills and the ability to handle a fast-paced work environment is essential; must possess strong organizational skills, political instincts and the ability to strategically plan and execute complex projects in a timely and efficient manner, and work collaboratively within a team atmosphere.
