Metropolitan Chicago Healthcare Council (MCHC) is a membership and service organization dedicated to helping their members care for their communities through access to health care and improved delivery of services. MCHC is currently seeking a Advocacy Specialist to work in the Government & Public Relations Department.
In concert with our government relations strategy, this position will work with the department director to establish and carry out effective advocacy efforts; coordinate the legislative monitoring program; assist with policy and issue research; write advocacy and other department materials, including member communications, testimony and elected official directory; covers hearings, meetings and other political events on behalf of the department; helps identify and engage community stakeholders on advocacy campaigns; and assist in responding to departmental needs from other departments.
Other responsibilities will include (but not limited to) coordinating online grassroots advocacy efforts and communication vehicles, including Capwiz, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, etc.; assisting in the development of content for the MCHC Web site as needed; and assisting the director in coordinating member education events.
Required Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills
• Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications or Public Relations required
• A minimum of one to three years of advocacy experience
• Exemplary organizational skills
• Excellent writing, grammar and editing skills required, with AP Stylebook knowledge preferred
• Must be experienced in Microsoft Office, Quark Express, InDesign and Web technology, including HTML.
