Next Big Thing in Social Media and Politics

What does the future of social media use for political campaigns hold? That was the question many leading political operatives were asking at this year's South by Southwest festival, according to Politico.com.
"The sentiment of the thousands of tech enthusiasts who descended on this
bustling city is that there is one thing you can count on about technology:
Twitter and Facebook are just the first act of a social networking
revolution. And the upheaval will continue to change how politicians wage campaigns — and
how the public tries to influence them once they’re in office," says Mike Zapler of Politico.
In addition to using social media for campaigns, activists and politicians alike are experimenting with online tools to promote open government intiatives. According to Zapler, "online
apps can help citizens learn more about legislation, interact with members of
Congress and draw connections between money and politics."
