Harsanyi to Advise Public Affairs Council Members on Global Strategy
Fruzsina M. Harsanyi, Ph.D., whose 30-year career has included leading global public affairs and communications divisions for ABB Inc., and Tyco International Inc., has joined the Public Affairs Council as a senior advisor.
As a consultant on the role public affairs plays in global business strategy, Harsanyi will advise Council members on domestic and international public affairs challenges. She will be a guest speaker and facilitator at Council events, develop print and online publications and
serve as a resource for the Council's growing International Network.
"We've made a commitment to provide higher-value services to multinational companies and associations," said Council President Doug Pinkham. "The appointment of Dr. Harsanyi will help us expand our training and education programs here and around the world."
"We're thrilled to bring her expertise to Council members," said Council Vice President Sheree Anne Kelly, who directs the Council's international ventures. "Her reputation as a thought-leader in the field is second to none."
As a successful executive for three decades, Harsanyi has built public affairs divisions from the ground up and turned existing programs into mature and integrated models that have been showcased across the field.
While vice president of global public affairs for Tyco International Inc. from 2003 to 2008, Harsanyi managed the public affairs programs for the 118,000-employee, $40 billion company. She created Tyco's first company-wide public affairs function and its first public affairs practice in China and Mexico. She has been recognized for cementing Tyco's reputation with government decision-makers and protecting the company against punitive legislation.
When Tyco split into three publicly traded companies in 2007, Harsanyi created public affairs organizational designs for all three entities.
Before joining Tyco, Harsanyi served 13 years as senior vice president of public affairs and corporate communications for ABB Inc., a U.S. subsidiary of the Swiss-Swedish ABB Group. She has also worked for Combustion Engineering, the Continental Group and as special assistant to the U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development.
Harsanyi is an adjunct professor at Georgetown University's Foreign Service School, on the faculty of the Corporate Public Affairs Institute in Melbourne, Australia, and lectures widely around the world.
